A team of two punters from Nebraska teamed up to participate in the annual Westgate SuperContest, which is hosted by Westgate Superbook in Las Vegas. The two were successful in turning their original deposit of $3,000 into a whopping $1.47 million by the time the contest was over.
The state of Nebraska has not yet joined the other US states that offer legal sports gambling, but, that couldn't stop the dynamic duo from taking home a handsome cheque. Eric Jensen and Matt Kucera each put $1,500 down to participate in the football handicapping contest, which attracts hundreds of professional sports gamblers each year, and, after a few precise bets went in their favor, they took the top prize.
This year's contest brought in record-breaking 3,328 entries and with news of this major win, next years' contest should get even bigger.
Jensen and Kucera formed a team called "It Ain't Breezy," and played five NFL games each week of the NFL regular season. They bet against the spread and met frequently to discuss strategy and make their next moves. Their winning record was an incredible 58-25-2. As an example of their betting prowess, they took the Saints and QB Drew Brees in Week 17. New Orleans was beating the 13-point spread as they demolished the Carolina Panthers 42-10. At that time, both punters felt really good about the Saints, but, hopefully, they didn't take them in the Wildcard game against the Vikings a few days ago, as Brees and the boys lost at the Superdome.
The duo is no stranger to sports. Both were high school and college athletes and are part of a big fantasy football league in their home state. They had also been in the 2018 Westgate SuperContest, coming in above .500, but, nothing could prepare them for winning the 2019 bid.
