Gingrich Emerges in Presidential Betting Odds

Could a major surprise be on the cards in the Republic Presidential Primaries?

Just when you thought the Republican Presidential Primaries were over and the presidential race was going to be a battle of Obama vs Romney, some major shake-ups have happened this week, causing online sportsbooks like William Hill and Sports Interaction to alter their odds dramatically.

Gingrich Emerges

Just when it seemed Mitt Romney was headed for certain victory, Newt Gingrich surged to a surprise victory in the South Carolina on the weekend, giving him all the momentum ahead of the all-important Florida primary on January 31. In Florida, Gingrich's record in government will be put to the test, while Romney will be grilled on issues like immigration.

Barack Obama gave a possible preview of his election year message, when he gave the traditional State of the Union address Tuesday. In it, he laid out his vision for strengthening the US economy, with a focus on tax inequality and economic leadership. He also spoke in depth about education.

Presidential Odds

Obama remains William Hill's presidential favorite (and it should stay that way at least until the Republican primaries finish), with 4/6 odds. He is followed by Romney, 2/1, Gingrich, who has firmed to 6/1, and Republic outsiders Ron Paul, 33/1, and Rick Santorum, 66/1. The rest of the Republic candidates have been ruled out.

In Republican Presidential Primaries odds, Romney, 4/9, leads Gingrich, 7/4, Paul, 20/1, and Santorum, 40/1. But in Florida, where all attention will be next week, Gingrich is 8/15 favorite, followed by Romney, 11/8, and Santorum and Paul, both 50/1.

Full odds on both the presidential and Republican races, and selected Republican primaries, can be found at William Hill, Sports Interaction, 888, bet365 and other online sportsbooks.
