The U.K. Hilton chain expects to turn some of its large hotel facilities into casino bonanzas by the end of next year. The Brighton and Blackpool locations have large room capacities.
Brighton has 400 in particular. David Michels, Chief Executive of Hilton Group, said, "You could have mini-Atlantic cities. The hotels in Blackpool and Brighton are both very big, and they have banqueting facilities that can become large casinos. There will be slot machine areas as well as entertainment and gaming - roulette wheels, craps, and poker."
The Brighton casino will aim at wooing weekend gamblers to its 200 slot machines and 30 gaming tables. For non-gamblers there will be entertainment attractions and cabaret. Michel says. "If you don't add the entertainment you are not adding enough. There are people, for example, who go to Las Vegas and don't gamble. And in the same way, our resorts must always be an experience and not just a gamblers´ den." Gambling laws in the U.K. expects to be altered to allow casinos to advertise, have live entertainment and additional slot machines that will give bigger jackpot prizes. The Metropole and West Pier are seafront locations that Hilton also hopes to turn into a "mini-Atlantic City."
