Horse Bettor Turns $0.50 Into Over $500,000 In One Day

History was made earlier this month (April 11, 2020), as a bettor became the fifth-highest payout winner for a Pick 5 in U.S. horse racing history. The payout totaled $524,966.50 after a big upset day at the track saw some longshot wins, including a 73-1 winner. 

The races were run without anyone in the stands. The race was at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Florida, and the lucky bettor made the wager with an online bookmaker. The wins were on the first five races of the day, including the aforementioned 73-1 longshot won by No. 8 Freddy Soto. The horse had beaten only five horses in his previous three races. Union Lane, the No. 4 was the second winner of the day also with the odds stacked against him. 

Those were the biggest longshot of the day and the bettor then won with the next three races including, No.1 He's a Babe, No. 3 Enzoexpress, and No. 6 Lashara. When the fifth race was pulling down the stretch, the bettor had to be cheering from home as there were more than a half a million dollars on the line. 

The most amazing part of this story is the fact that the bettor only placed the Pick-5 bet with 0.50 cents. This win was the third-largest non-jackpot win in U.S. history. 

Horse racing has been limited due to the pandemic  and some races are still running on empty tracks. Online sportsbetting has taken a serious hit due to the lack of sporting events, but a win like this is good news during these complex times. 

Few feelings could compare to turning 0.50 cents into $524,966.50 in a few hours, and the bettor surely had adrenaline pumping through the veins as the final horse came across the finish line. Pick-5 bets are extremely hard to win as it is, and winning slingshots such as the ones that the bettor won are virtually unheard of.
