Horse Racing: Qatar Goodwood Festival Preview

Some incredible Horse Racing from the Qatar Goodwood Festival kicks off with action from Today until Saturday.

The Qatar Goodwood Horse Racing Festival gets underway today with some of the biggest races of the year scheduled for action. The Festival will last from today, until Saturday when all races are said and done and the winners reap in their winning stakes.  There will be three, Group One races over the next four days with the first being held on the opening day.

Many of the names from the Gold Cup at this year's Ascot are expected to be in the first Group One race. The Goodwood Cup will be the first that we get a look at the world's best. The prize purse for the first big race is a whopping £500,000, and reigning champion for the last two years, Big Orange looks to three-peat.

Day two brings with it one of the biggest races of the year, the Sussex Stakes. The prize money jumps to £1,000,000 for this big 1-mile race, which was won last year by the  Gurkha. Famous ponies like Frankel and Solow have won this race and the 2017 edition should be just as exciting.

Day 3 is Ladies' Day, the "glamorous" day of this event. While most eyes will be on the elaborate dress that most people will be wearing, whilst people in the know will be watching the Group One, Nassau Stakes, the highlight of the eight races planned for Day 3. £600,000 is on the line and there is no better backdrop than the beautiful Sussex Downs.

Day four, the 4th of August will feature seven action-packed races, but the highlight will definitely be the Qatar King George Stakes, a Group 2 race with a prize purse of £300,000 to be won. This race is known to be one of the highlights of the year and should bring high numbers on and off the track.

The day before last, on Friday, the races include the five-furlong Group Two Sprint and the King George Stakes. Two races that will most-definitely keep bettors and owners on the edge of their seats respectively. The last day all the stops come out as the Stewards Cup takes center stage, with a cool £250,000.
