Based on Beth Raymer's memoir.
Rebecca Hall, Bruce Willis, Vince Vaughn, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Joshua Jackson star in this 2012 film based on the true story chronicled in Beth Raymer's memoir.
Beth (Rebecca Hall) is a Florida stripper who moved to Vegas in order to fulfill her lifelong dream of becoming a cocktail waitress. She gets side tracked, however, once Dink (Bruce Willis)-a sports gambler running a sophisticated operation to track and manipulate odds-recognizes Beth's special talent with numbers. He brings her in on his scheme...that is, until his jealous wife (Catherine Zeta-Jones) puts her foot down and sends Beth packing. Beth then somehow finds herself in the greatest city on earth, NYC, with some guy she just met (Joshua Jackson), working for a nutty bookie (Vince Vaughn). How will she get out of this mess? She'll need a bit of luck-that's for sure!
The Lay the Favorite script is full of gambling jargon (starting with the title) giving it a fun insider feel to those in the know. While it may not be completely worth catching in the theater, if you enjoy adrenaline-pumping gambling movies, nail-biting heist flicks, and the like, Lay the Favorite is great for a rainy afternoon, or chill evening at home.
