Legalization of Swiss Online Gambling?

Good news from Switzerland. The Swiss government is nowadays processing a stream of regulations and laws in order to lift the ban on Online Gambling which was set in 1998. The ban was very hard to administer for Swiss authorities due to a lack of enforcing capabilities. Today, there are 20 casinos operating within Swiss borders, with the latest Brick & Mortar Casino being opened in the city of Zurich in November 2012. Adding to that, Swiss citizens could always play on external non-Swiss online gambling sites.

The main argument made by Swiss lawmakers and lobbyists against the regulating of online gambling, was that it will possess a serious potential of hindering the present land-based casinos already operating inside the country.

The Prescription: Fees, Licenses and OGAS

Following a recent report which has refuted the argument that online gambling will injure land-based gambling venues, it seems that the Swiss Government is willing to go on towards legislation to legislate online gambling.

One of the possible routes which Switzerland lawmakers might take is to regulate online gambling establishments inside the country with a system of Licenses and fees. This might be done by a body called The Online Gambling Association Switzerland (OGAS), which will also serve as an address for the needs of Swiss online gambling providers.

Hope remains that in this instance, other European countries will not remain neutral in face of the positive steps made by the Swiss Government.
