Liverpool vs Villarreal: Must Win for Liverpool in Europa League SemifinalPublished May 5, 2016 by Sol FH
The Reds are down 1-0 on aggregate from the first leg, can they turn it around tonight at 20:05 GMT.
Liverpool has a difficult task at hand tonight, as they face Villarreal in the final leg of their Europa League semifinal. The winner of tonight's match will go on to face either Spanish side Sevilla or Shakhtar Donetsk from the Ukraine, but will only know which team after their match tomorrow night. Liverpool's last visit to a European Final was in 2007, when they lost the Champions League to AC Milan, but Jurgen Klopp is confident his side will be able to win some silverware in his first season at the helm of the Reds.
"If we play our best then we can go to the final," related Klopp. "These players gave me a lot of positive signs about their qualities. The German coach stunned his old team Dortmund in the quarter final to make it to the semis, but he needs his players to give a performance of a lifetime if they are to beat Villarreal tonight.
Liverpool will have to overcome some holes in their opening squad and star striker Beneteke could be on the bench, but the Reds have depth and they have a great record in European games when playing at Anfield.
Villarreal are in great shape. They are fully healthy and are up by a goal after the first leg. An away goal would all but lock in their chances to advance to the final. Even if they are knocked out of the competition tonight, Villarreal will be in the Champions League next season after qualifying in La Liga. They have never made it to the final of the Europa League and are eager to get there after major improvements to their squad over the last four years.
