Lottery Fluke Creates Another Millionaire

A live lottery draw on Canada's Global BC News channel took a spontaneous twist recently when one of the channel's own presenters won the expensive prize live on air. Barry Deley, the Global BC sports anchor, now has the option of a house worth 2.5 million Canadian dollars, or taking away 2 million in cash.

Initially the Global BC anchor team thought name on the winning ticket was Barry "Delaney," but when they checked a second time they realized that it was Barry "Deley," who also happened to live in Port Moody, exactly the same place as their sports colleague - who wasn't presenting that night - had his home. In a flurry of excitement, they whipped out the broadcasting studio's phone and dialed their colleague's number live on air to tell him about his good fortune.

Mr. Deley was doing a little grocery shopping when his cellphone rang, and it took quite some persuading to convince him that he really had just won a couple of million dollars. The live TV news had obviously begun to trickle through to locals, as people in the store began congratulating him even before he had hung up.

Interestingly, the other Global BC news anchors commented that Mr. Deley had always declined to join their lottery pool, preferring instead to purchase his own individual tickets.
