Lyon and PSG Square off in the French Supercup

PSG has its sights on a new trophy when it takes on Lyon (7:45 p.m UK Time).
PSG has won pretty much everything that could be won in both the French championship and the domestic cup. They defeated Lyon both at home and on the road and had no problem in winning all the trophies last season. That’s why, this confrontation in the French super cup looks like a match whose outcome is fairly easy to predict.
No Ibrahimovic for PSG
The French outfit has lost its most important player, as the Swedish international chose to leave for Manchester United. Even without him, PSG had no problem in winning most games in the International Champions Cup. They took on teams much better than Lyon and still didn’t play defensive football.
There is no reason to expect the reigning champions to shift into a less aggressive gear when they play the first official match this season. Not even the fact that the game is played in Austria on a neutral venue is expected to have an impact on its outcome. The starting formation will feature four players in the back line, three midfielders and three strikers, to exercise constant pressure.
Poor Record on the Road for Lyon
Lyon used to be a force to be reckoned with in the French championship, but they sank into near irrelevance over the last couple of years. In the wake of massive investments as PSG, the former champions stood no chance and lost all important features. They managed to win a game last season, but by that time they were far behind the leaders and with no chance to close the gap.
PSG will be dying to open a new year with a victory against an archrival. It won’t matter at all that the match is played in Austria, so punters should back the reigning champions at full stakes. bet365 Sports offers the best odds right now, 7 out of 10 but they’re expected to drop as kickoff draws near.
