Lyon Faces Its Toughest Opponent yet When PSG Come Visiting

Past and present Ligue 1 champions lock horns in the derby of France, when PSG and Lyon square off at Parc Olympique Lyonnais. (7:45 p.m UK Time).

Lyon is on the verge of suffering an untimely, but predictable elimination from the Champions League. Their opponents are simply too good to beat, but at least in the French domestic leagues they are surging. After a poor season start, they are back in the mix for a European berth. Their road to the podium is blocked by PSG, as the reigning champions try to tie Nice for the lead.

Back-To-Back Victories for Lyon

Lyon stunned Juventus in Turin two weeks ago by denying them victory in the final minutes of regulation time. The result is probably too little too late to change anything in the most prestigious European competition. However, in Ligue 1 they are riding a three-game winning streak that includes two victories on the road.

This time they have home pitch advantage but they play against the team that hasn’t lost a match in the last 10 rounds. Their head to head record against PSG leaves a lot to be desired, as the Parisians won the vast majority of direct matches recently. This is one of the few teams that they can’t afford to play aggressive football against, as the reigning champions are lethal on counterattack.

Critical Months Ahead for PSG

The visitors are hard-pressed to make the most of the rounds scheduled in the first half of the French season. They are already qualified for the elimination round in the Champions League and competition promises to be tough. Their goal is to finish on the first place before the winter break and these three points are of great importance for PSG.

Three players are doubtful ahead of this fixture due to injuries, but none of them are essential for the visitors. That’s why the even odds offered by bet365 Sports are worth taking despite Lyon’s good form and the fact that they have home pitch advantage.
