March Madness Best Bracket Picks: Betting on the UnderdogsPublished March 18, 2015 by Amir G
The unexpected teams that could break the NCAA March Madness brackets.
The NCAA March Madness is here for the delight of sports and online gambling fans. The tournament is highly unpredictable, despite there being favorites and strong teams that are expected to make it to the Final Four and the title game. Not all top seeded teams make it to the top and there's always the magic of those unexpected teams that break the brackets - the underdogs and Cinderellas. Here are a few teams to look out for.
Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks (12)
Winning the Southland Conference with a record of 29-4 and 17-1 in the regular season, the 12th-seeded Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks are coming in strong for their first round fight against the 5th-seeded Utah Utes.
The Jacks upset the VCU Rams at overtime in last year's second round and with their experience they can go far this time, especially given the fact that the next game will be easier against Eastern Washington or Georgetown. Online bookie William Hill offered 200/1 on SFA in outright markets.
Georgia State Panthers (14)
The 14th-seeded Georgia State Panthers haven't played in the tournament since 2001 and they're coming with 24-9 against the 3th-seeded Baylor. Georgia have R.J. Hunter who's shining with first round pick potential in the spring NBA draft, with an average of 20 points per game. Hunter is joined by Ryan Harrow with a similar average, and they're both eager to ease their coach's injury after tearing his Achilles in celebrations after winning the Sun Belt. William Hill gave them 250/1.
Wofford Terriers (12)
12th-seeded Wofford Terriers are coming with a 27-6 record, having finish first in the Southern Conference with 16-2, they've lost only once in their last 15 games. They're coming up against the 5th-seeded Arkansas Razorbacks who are veterans in the competition, but the Terriers are keen to make a lasting impression.
This season saw Wofford with some impressive wins including 55-54 over North Carolina State Wolfpack back in December. With a stellar defense, the Terriers can go far this year. William Hill Sports gave Wofford 200/1.
Valparaiso Crusaders (13)
Valparaiso Crusaders are coming from the No. 13 seed with 28-5, to face the 4th-seeded Maryland Terrapins in the first round. Crusaders have good scorers like Alec Peters who's also strong on rebounds. The Crusaders are good three-pointers and they're good defenders too – less so in the free throwing category, but they seem to have what it takes to carry out a Giant Killing and advance. Hill gave them 250/1.
Wisconsin Badgers (1)
The only non-underdog in the list, Wisconsin Badgers are No. 1 seed with 31-3 and they're coming up against the quite anonymous Coastal Carolina Chanticleers. The road to the title seems to be paved for the Badgers, even with the existence of the unbeaten Kentucky Wildcats and the strength of the Arizona Wildcats. Badgers made it to the Final Four last year and they have the best overall player Frank Kaminsky. Wisconsin were 9/1 to win at William Hill.
