Metric Gaming Obtains UK Gambling License

Emerging mobile sports betting software provider Metric Gaming has received a remote gambling license from the UK Gambling Commission.

Metric Gaming LLC is the latest sports wagering software firm to be granted a remote gambling license from the UK Gambling Commission. The news has been welcomed by Metric Gaming, as it will enable the provider to continue its operations in the UK online gambling industry.

The need for Metric Gaming to obtain a UK Gambling Commission license followed a shakeup in the country’s regulatory system. At the start of November 2014, new legislation required all operators providing online services to British residents to possess a license from the UK Gambling Commission. Previously, it used to be enough to hold a license with an offshore online gambling jurisdiction.

Insights from Metric Gaming Executives

Douglas Mishkin is employed a senior vice president of legal affairs with Matric Gaming. He believes that acquiring a license was a vital step “to demonstrate to the market our commitment to regulatory compliance”. Mishkin also that the licensing approval was “a testament to the integrity of our business and products.”

Metric CEO Peter Bertilsson understands that “the UK is of course a critical market for Metric”, as it is home to millions of sports bettors. By obtaining a license, Metric can now “continue to provide the UK market with cutting-edge innovation”. Of course, the software provider will face a challenge breaking through in a highly competitive marketplace.

A Brief Background on Metric

Metric describes its offering as “first-to-market mobile sports wagering software”. Desktop betting is already at saturation point in the UK, making it nearly impossible for new operators to break through. However, Metric is attempting to do so by focusing on the rapidly growing mobile sports betting market.

The software provider has expanded quickly since being opened in 2011 by Martin de Knijff, a professional handicapper. Metric is headquartered in Las Vegas and now has offices situated in Stockholm and on the Isle of Man.
