February 2016 has started with a bang for Microgaming. A Guinness World Record, an IGA award, and a Jurassic World slot deal have kick-started the month.
Microgaming has just received its Guinness World Records certificate for setting the largest jackpot win from an online slot game back in October. The igaming software developer has now published pictures of the official certificates to honour the historic achievement.
The official presentation came on the floor of ICE Totally Gaming 2016, which is an annual B2B event that brings together professionals and operators from the global igaming industry. Those in attendance at the Microgaming booth learned just how the world-record €17.8 million jackpot was won.
Incredibly, Betway UK user Jon Heywood managed to win the colossal €17.8 million jackpot with a 25p spin. Jon was also present to receive his own certificate and to tell his story to those in attendance. Thus far, Jon has spent a portion of the winnings on a new car and holidays, while also looking after his family.
2015 Innovator of the Year
Microgaming also hit the headlines at the International Gaming Awards (IGA) for winning the 2015 Innovator of the Year crown. In a highly competitive category, Microgaming was able to distinguish itself by developing a virtual reality (VR) roulette game.
Virtual and augmented reality gaming have been pioneered by Microgaming. Before creating VR roulette, Microgaming’s previous effort in the genre included sports betting on Google Glass. Another key innovation came when Thunderstruck was released on smartwatches in 2014. However, the upsurge in VR usage indicates that this is the best area to focus on.
Jurassic World Slot Deal
Two years have passed since Microgaming announced it would release a groundbreaking video slot based on Steven Spielberg’s iconic Jurassic Park film. Well, Microgaming has just revealed a second exclusive deal to extend the franchise by launching a Jurassic World slot.
This is yet another gigantic deal for a developer that has already made slots based on the Dark Knight and Game of Thrones. Obtaining the rights to 2015’s biggest summer blockbuster gives Microgaming a real edge on its closest competitors, which have struggled to match the scale of Microgaming’s deals.
