MLB Playoff Chase Heating Up

Set your clock for tonight's late game at 2:10am UK time to catch the Mariners vs the Blue Jays.

With only weeks away from the 2014 MLB post-season, each game is crucial if the teams are to have any hopes at a playoff berth. One of the biggest races for a spot in the post-season is in the tough American League with the Blue Jays, the Mariners and the Yankees all in a three-way tie for the second AL Wildcard.

Tonight’s game is the first of a 4-game series just before the start of the playoffs. Both teams will be playing hard for each and every run so fans will get to see some of the best baseball of the season in these next couple weeks.

Mariners vs Blue Jays

Tonight’s game features one of the best pitchers in all of baseball (Hernandez, Mariners) who will face one of the most skilled offenses in the AL, as the Blue Jays have been on the bats this season. Hernandez has the best ERA in the league at 1.97 with 186 strikeouts and in his last win against the Braves, he extended his Major League record for a pitcher starting a game, pitching at least 7 innings and allowing 2 runs or less. Some of the statistics in Baseball are a little far-fetched, but this one is impressive. The Mariners bullpen leads the American League with an ERA of 2.36. Their pitching staff leads the entire Major League at 3.04.

The Blue Jays are in the hunt for a playoff spot after having an excellent season. Led by powerhouse hitters Jose Bautista and Melky Cabrera, the Jays seek their first successful playoff bid in a number of years. The Jays are among the leading offenses in the league with 137 home runs, a slugging percentage of .426, OPS at .756 and an overall team hitting average of 2.36. This is part of the reason the Mariners are throwing Hernandez at Toronto in hopes that he can lead his team to victory at Safeco tonight.

The Blue Jays hope that their young gun, Drew Hutchison can seal the deal against Hernandez while on the road, but Seattle at Safeco has looked unstoppable this season.
