MLB Preview: Detroit Tigers vs Pittsburgh Pirates

The struggling Tigers travel to Pittsburgh to take on the Pirates at 00:00 GMT.
The Pirates have not played a real contender since July 20th. They are home tonight against a team that they crushed during the preseason, but as we have seen of the Pirates lately, they have not taken advantage of their schedule and are still in a battle in the NL Central. It should be an interesting series to watch, as both teams are in need of some desperate wins, but the Pirates have the advantage going into tonight's game.
The Pirates have been cursed since July without winning many of their series'. They lost to the San Francisco Giants, the San Diego Padres, and the Cincinnati Reds, before finally winning on against the Padres in their second series of the month after a 12th inning win. "It had been a while since we had one," Clint Hurdle, Pirates' manager said to media. "We were on such a nice roll through that one stretch. Then we got on the other side of things. These guys love to play, and they've got all kinds of fight in them."
The Pirates are 4.5 games behind the Cubs, still in charge of the division. They will send Trevor Williams to the mound to face Jordan Zimmerman the big right-hander. The Tigers are in need of a big win tonight in order to try and close the six-game par they have to the Wild Card spot. They have won 9 of their last 14 road games and Zimmerman is coming off one of his best-ever performances. He gave up six hits over seven shutout innings, as the Tigers beat the Yankees.
