The Blue Jays are at home once again tonight to face the Tampa Bay Rays for the fourth time this August and they have a chance to make a significant move in the standings if they are able to keep their winning ways up. The Jays won last night's nail-biter, 3-2, due in large by the pitching of Marcus Stroman, whom is now 11-6 on the season. This record is far-better than most of the Jays' bullpen, but a win tonight would put the Jays out of last place in the AL East and within one game of third place. The Rays have not been able to best the Jays on the season, but they still lead by a full game.
Stroman was simply excellent last night and came back for strikeouts after being down 3-0 on two occasions in the first two innings. When he left the mound in the seventh inning with a 3-1 lead it was all but over. Tonight, they hope that Chris Rowley, who had an excellent debut on August 12 will be able to continue their momentum, as the end of the season looms.
The Rays are throwing Chris Archer at the Jays and the big right-hander is looking to get over his last outing, a loss to the Indians. Archer has been dominant against the Jays this year, going 0-0 in three starts and a 2.57 ERA.
