Monday Night Football Winners and Losers
Published October 23, 2018 by Sol FH
The Monday Night matchup was a fantastic way to start the week with the Falcons coming out on top.
Week 7 of the NFL Regular ended last night with the game between the Atlanta Falcons And the New York Giants. Both of these teams were desperate to turn their seasons around, but Atlanta held on to win. Make no mistake, both the Falcons and Giants are going through a miserable year, but Atlanta’s win last week against Tampa Bay 34-29, while the Giants were pummeled by the Super Bowl Champion Eagles 34-13 had a lot to do with last night’s game.
Atlanta is now 3-4, but before the season began, they were co-favorites to win the NFC South with the New Orleans Saints. The Giants, currently 1-6, was supposed to take the Eagles out of their nest in the NFC East, but cannot get their offense to do anything and are in the last place.
Is the Manning-era Over?
Questions about Eli Manning's ability to lead the Giants offense are now more prominent than ever, as his production fades, but the offense went for 399 yards against the Falcons and had one TD completion. The problem is the same as week’s before in which the offense only starts rolling in the fourth quarter. They did make a comeback scoring 2 TD’s in the 4th, but the Falcons held on for the win, 23-20.
The New York offense is ranked No. 20 in total yards per game, No. 26 in scoring, while the defense is ranked No. 26 in points allowed. Not the rankings of a team that will make it anywhere other than back to the drawing board during the off-season.
On the other side of the field, Matt Ryan threw for 379 yards against Giants, but the Atlanta defense chocked in the 4th quarter and almost lost the game.
The Odds Were Sweet
With Atlanta at home last night, the Giants didn’t have a lot going for them. Eli Manning looks slow and old, and they were severe underdogs down the stretch. Odds on the game at bet365 Sports favored Atlanta at 1.50 while the Giants are at 2.70. Punters who placed a bet on the outright winner will be pleased today.
