Movie prediction markets are drawing millions in trading volume. From Spider-Man: Brand New Day to the unlikely return of Stranger Things, traders are betting on what Hollywood does next.
The movie world has always been full of predictions. Now, some of those guesses are turning into markets worth millions of dollars. Traders are putting real money bets on everything from blockbuster openings to the unlikely return of Stranger Things.
Prediction markets have moved well beyond elections and major political events, with entertainment becoming a big part of the picture. Movies are particularly well suited to this format because there is always another release date, trailer, opening weekend, or surprise announcement around the corner.
The numbers tell the story. Three movie-related markets currently stand out for their trading activity. The biggest asks whether Netflix will release a new Stranger Things episode by March 31, 2027, generating more than $30.8 million in volume.
Two other markets focus squarely on the 2026 box office. One asks which movie will have the year’s biggest gross, while the other looks at the biggest opening weekend. And there’s a familiar name sitting at the centre of both.

The Stranger Things market is easily the most intriguing of the three. It has generated over $30,876,670 in volume, despite traders putting very low odds on a new episode actually appearing.
These figures make for an unusual market. While there is plenty of money changing hands, there is very little confidence that Netflix will actually deliver another episode.

If the Stranger Things market is about an unlikely comeback, the 2026 movie markets are about something much more immediate. Spider-Man: Brand New Day is the clear favourite.
In the highest-grossing movie market, the current snapshot supplied for the “Highest Grossing Movie in 2026” market puts Spider-Man at 92%, compared with 8% for Avengers: Doomsday.
The market has generated ⁓$16,854,000+ in volume - a remarkable amount of trading for a question that ultimately comes down to what audiences choose to watch.

While the probability gap looks enormous, the trading volumes make the market more interesting than the percentages alone suggest:

The third market strips away the rest of the year’s box office and asks a simpler question: Which movie gets the biggest opening weekend in 2026? The market has generated $1,982,100+ in volume, with Spider-Man: Brand New Day leading at 71% ($152,255+ in volume). Avengers: Doomsday sits second at 29% with $225,430+ in volume.
Then comes a steep drop. Dune: Messiah and The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping are both below 1%, with less than $200k in combined volume.

Opening weekend is a different test from total annual gross. A movie can build gradually and still become a major success. The opening weekend question rewards the films capable of creating a huge initial rush. That is where Spider-Man’s position becomes interesting.
The character has an enormous global fan base. The film also has the advantage of arriving much earlier than Avengers: Doomsday, allowing it to generate a huge three-day debut before the end-of-year blockbuster arrives.
Avengers: Doomsday still has the franchise power to cause an upset. That 29% share is not insignificant. If anticipation builds sharply ahead of its December release, traders could begin moving money back towards Marvel’s biggest team-up.
For now, though, Spider-Man has the momentum.
At first glance, these markets look very different. One asks whether Netflix will revive a finished TV phenomenon. Another asks which film will lead the 2026 box office, while the third focuses on the biggest opening weekend.
But they all show how movie prediction markets turn entertainment news into something traders can follow as it happens. A trailer can shift sentiment, a release-date announcement can change the field, and a huge opening weekend can transform the favourite.
That is what makes movie prediction markets so lively: there is always another piece of news coming.
Prediction markets are no longer limited to elections. Movies, entertainment, technology, crypto and sport can become part of the conversation as events unfold. Whether you’re following the award ceremonies, latest sports events, or the crypto coin race, there are markets to explore.
