NASA Finds Earth's Older Cousin

The scientific community is shaken by a recent discovery unveiled by NASA on Thursday. The space agency claims that its Kepler spacecraft has found Earth's "bigger, older cousin": A planet outside the solar system that could sustain human life.

Meet Kepler-452b

Named Kepler-452b, the new-found planet is believed to be much larger than Earth - about 60 percent - five times the size of planet Earth. The planet is believed to be 1.5 billion years older than Earth.

The size of Kepler-452b will make the gravity experience on the planet much more difficult for humans compared to Earth's gravity. NASA says that the planet's orbit time around its star is 385 days - not too far from Earth's numbers.

Impossible Distance

Kepler-452b is 1,400 light years away from Earth so the chances of humans reaching it anytime soon are non-existent, yet this is a startling discovery that could be very influential for the future of mankind.

Commenting on the new discovery, Kepler researcher Jon Jenkins announced that "Today, Earth is a little less lonely". According to Jenkins, scientists are almost certain that Kepler-452b has an atmosphere, but cannot determine exactly what is it made of; it's probable to believe however that due to a thicker atmosphere, Kepler-452b has more active volcanoes than Earth.
