NBA Eastern Conference Finals Betting: Cavs vs. Hawks Game 2Published May 22, 2015 by Amir G
The Cleveland Cavaliers and Atlanta Hawks meet for game 2 in the NBA playoffs Eastern Conference Finals (00:30 GMT).
The NBA playoffs Eastern Conference Finals continue today with game 2 between Cleveland Cavaliers and Atlanta Hawks (00:30 GMT). Wednesday night saw David Blatt's side take the first game with an impressive 97-89 victory at the Philips Arena.
Will the Hawks take matters into their own hands in Atlanta, or will the Cavs go back to Cleveland with a strong 2-0 lead? If game 1 can serve as any indication, Cavs are favorites to win this one as well.
Game 1 saw J.R. Smith proving his worth as he delivered the Cavs 28 points on 10-of-16 shooting, having scored 8 three-pointers. Hawks just couldn't handle this highly proficient sharpshooter who is justly thought one of the league's top outside shooters, as Blatt himself told the press: "When he gets hot, he gets smoking hot."
Smith was aided by LeBron James who finished with 31 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists, and Timofey Mizgov and Tristian Thompson who contributed both in points (24 together) and 21 rebounds that concluded with the Cavs out-rebounding Hawks 49 to 37.
Up until halftime it was a completely open game as the score was a 51-51 tie, but the situation was changed by the end of the third quarter that ended 74-67 in favor of the Cavs, an edge the Hawks couldn't manage to match.
Jeff Teague marked a team-high with 27 points, but the game was overshadowed by the injury sustained by DeMarre Carroll who sprained his left knee and is out for the next game. Carroll is one of the top players in Atlanta's defense, thought to be one of the keys against Cleveland's LeBron James.
