New Bigger iPhone 6 Could Greatly Impact Mobile Gaming

As we near September, the traditional month in which Apple releases its new iPhones, more and more rumors and speculations pop up about the newest member expected in Apple's family: The iPhone 6.

The Rise of the "Phablet"

One thing about Apple's next flagship product most speculators agree on is that it's going to be bigger – much bigger. As of right now, rumor has it that the iPhone 6 will come in two sizes: 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch. This has already earned the upcoming iPhone 6 the name "phablet". If their big competitors Samsung do not precede them, Apple might herald the first device managing to find the sweet spot between the size of a tablet and that of a smartphone.  

The 4.7-inch iPhone 6 is said to be ready for launch and it's very possible we'll be seeing it in September, while estimations for the 5.5-inch release date put it somewhere around November.

Impact on Mobile Gaming

If and when the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 hits the market, the online mobile gaming world could meet a shining opportunity for something akin to a revolution. While technologies like HTML5 today allow for smooth mobile gaming experiences on both tablets and smartphones, the appearance of a "phablet" would require special attention from mobile software developers. Current games will work on the new iPhone 6 when optimized for iOS 8, but the new "medium" size will give developers something totally new to play with.

Size Does Matter

Naturally, the bigger sizes in the iPhone 6 will also affect the device's display. This is the most elusive detail among predictors and tech journalists, but one thing that's almost sure is that we're going to see higher resolutions – something which means good news for mobile gamers as it could further upgrade their graphical experience.
