Blizzard announces major patches for World of Warcraft, new tournaments and heroes for Overwatch and Heroes of the Storm at BlizzCon 2016.
Activision Blizzard took advantage of the hype surrounding BlizzCon 2016 to make big announcements. All its popular franchises benefit from the addition of new content, professional competitions and DLC packs. Esports were also crowned at the event, at the end of action-packed matches.
Koreans Dominate the Esports Arena
ByuN has prevailed in the StarCraft II competition, despite returning from a lengthy break. South Koreans have always dominated these tournaments and they remain unchallenged. Meanwhile, Fnatic and Ballistix locked horns in the Heroes of the Storm tournament and the latter emerged victorious.
Pavel needed six games to outshine DrHippi in the Hearthstone final, while Splyce becomes the first team to win back-to-back World of Warcraft World Championships. Overwatch is the latest game produced by Blizzard Entertainment and BlizzCon 2016 marked the first major tournament. South Koreans won the gold medal, after facing some stiff opposition from opponents from Russia, USA and Sweden.
New Class and Anniversary Content for Diablo
The third major installment in the Diablo III franchise and its standalone expansion were well received by the fans. Blizzard has announced its intention of releasing a new mode called The Darkening of Tristram. This acts as a reworked version of the original game and will be available to those who have purchased the latest title. It will consist of a total of 16 level dungeons, with all four original main bosses present.
The Necromancer also returns into the spotlight, as the latest playable class. It will bear many similarities to the character available in the previous installments. However, it will wield new skills and abilities, original enough to differentiate itself from the Witch Doctors. Players will need to acquire the Rise of the Necromancer pack in 2017 to be able to play this new hero.
New Heroes in Overwatch and Heroes of the Storm
Sombra is the latest character that players will be able to control in Overwatch. The game will also benefit from the introduction of a new tournament called Overwatch League. The King of Stormwin Varian Wrynn has perished in World of Warcraft, but returns as a hero in Heroes of the Storm alongside Ragnaros the Firelord. To make his absence go unnoticed, WoW fans will be treated to brand-new content in 2017 when 7.2 patch goes live.
