NFL 2012-13 Betting BeginsPublished May 19, 2012 by OCR Editor
Most online sportsbooks already offering odds on next National Football League season
The last Super Bowl is only a few months behind us, but already the major online sportsbooks have begun to release odds on the next champion, conference winners and various scenarios that could take place in NFL season 2012-13.
Packers Super Bowl Favorites
William Hill, bet365 and 888Sports all have the Green Bay Packers as Super Bowl favorites at this point in time, with odds varying between 6/1 to 11/2. Hill is offering 7/1 on the New England Patriots, 10/1 for Houston Texans, 14/1 for the Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers, and the other bookmakers offer a similar order.
Last year's Super Bowl winners the New York Giants are way back at 18/1 with 888Sports and 20/1 with William Hill and bet365, suggesting that they may have a hard time repeating their success. But with no clear favorite this year, the field is wide open and it's a good time to place a wager on that dark horse you think could win it.
Conference and Match Betting
All three major online sportsbooks have released odds for NFC Conference Betting (Packers lead the way), AFC Conference Betting (Patriots odds favorite) and Week 1 fixtures and spreads (featuring some massive games such as Dallas Cowboys at New York Giants, 49ers at Packers and Pittsburgh Steelers at Denver Broncos).
In addition, 888Sports has already begun to quote odds on player season specials, starting with the race for regular season offensive rookie of the year. Get in early before odds tighten on Andrew Luck, 3/1, Robert Griffin III and Trent Richardson, 5/1, or any of the other 15 players for whom wagers are being taken.
Vegas Embraces NFL Fever
NFL teams haven't even completed their pre-season camps or finalized their lists yet, and the season is still months away from beginning, but that hasn't deterred Cantor Gaming - operator of sportsbooks for Las Vegas Casinos Venetian, Palazzo, Cosmopolitan, Tropicana, Hard Rock, M Resort and Palms from releasing spreads on all regular season games to Week 16.
Week 1 Lines came out weeks ago online and in Vegas, but with bettors already establishing predictions about which teams will perform well, and which won't, they now have the opportunity to place some big future bets on individual games, division, conference winners and of course the Super Bowl.
