NFL Preseason: 49ers Vs. Chiefs
Published August 12, 2021 by Sol FH
In a rematch of Super Bowl LIV, the San Fransisco 49ers take on the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday at 1:30 GMT.
The San Francisco 49ers host the Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs to kick-off both teams’ preseason. The kickoff is for 1:30 GMT at Levi’s Stadium, giving the 49ers a slight advantage.
One of the biggest lessons learned from last season's grande finale against the Buccaneers was the need to rework the Kansas City offensive line after QB Patrick Mahomes was pressured 29 times in a losing effort. Although preseason, we should expect to see the new offensive unit a few times and even Mahomes himself before the day is done.
The 49ers were dead last in the NFC West and only won 6 games on the year and obviously, did not make the playoffs. Even though the 49ers state that there is no competition to take the starting QB role from Jimmy Garoppolo, head coach Kyle Shanahan has turned up the heat on the QB position stating that rookie QB Trey Lance may be able to take the spot not before too long.
Last week, Shanahan went on the record and said that Trey Lance will be used situationally. Lance is expected to get the first few touches in the game so the 49ers will get a good look at their No. 3 overall pick in the draft.
NFL Preseason Odds and Pick
Well, it's just the preseason but fans have been hurting to see football for many months and this weekend should be one of the biggest events of the year. The odds are locked in at bet365 Sports, and, surprisingly, the Chiefs are the underdogs at 2.25, while the 49ers are at 1.68, due to the home-field advantage.
There is something about these odds that should make you think about taking the Chiefs in this one. The 49ers are still very unclear about their starters and don't seem to have a true vision for the way things will play out at QB.
The odds in this article at the bookmaker mentioned above were accurate at the time of writing, August 12 at 7:00 GMT.
