NHL Playoffs: Canadiens Vs. Maple Leafs Game 7
Published May 31, 2021 by Sol FH
The Montreal Canadiens have fought off a star-studded Maple Leafs team to force Game 7, tonight at 00:00 GMT.
Game 6 started out fast, but neither team could put the puck in the net over the first two periods. We saw Carey Price, goalie for the Habs make a number of key saves to keep the Maple Leafs at bay. It wasn't until the third period when both teams started to wake up on offense and Montreal set the tone early on in the period with a goal from Corey Perry who banged in a loose puck. The Canadiens got another break with a Toronto penalty and Tyler Toffoli beat Jack Campbell to make it 2-0.
The Leafs answered back with a goal from Jason Spezza and then by T.J. Brodie to tie things up and force OT for the second time straight in this series. Carey Price made a miraculous save at the beginning of OT, which gave the Canadiens a boost, as they seized the day and Jesperi Kotkaneimi knocked in the game-winner to force Game 7.
Canadiens with the Advantage
"We have confidence. We're going to Toronto so we can go to Winnipeg," Dominique Ducharme, Montreal coach commented. "It's a group of 20 players pushing in the same direction to achieve something that many believe is impossible."
Game 7 is the perfect finish to this series between the NHL's two oldest teams. This is the 16th playoff series between these pioneering teams since 1918 and this will surely be one of the best Game 7's of all time.
"The most fun you're ever going to have to play hockey is a Game 7," said Montreal defenseman Ben Chiarot. "For me, the key is you play loose. A Game 7 is a high-pressure situation. Guys can tend to get tight, but I think for us it's to just stay loose, just play the game and enjoy it."
NHL Playoff Odds
