NHL Playoffs: Capitals vs Penguins in Game 3Published May 2, 2017 by Sol FH
The Pens seek to extend their series lead to 3-0 and have home ice advantage tonight at 00:30 GMT.
The Penguins are like the Achilles Heal of the Washington Capitals in the playoffs, and Game 2 was a prime example of just that. After destroying the Caps in Washington in Game 2, 6-2. The Penguins also stole the Game 1 victory, putting them in perfect position to go up 3-0 tonight with the series in Pittsburgh. The combination of Phil Kessel, Jake Guentzel and Sidney Crosby has been too much for any team to handle in the post season and they continue to walk over the competition.
The Penguins have only lost one game so far this post season and the main reason for that success has been absolutely superb goal-tending by Marc-Andre Fleury and incredibly explosive offense by the aforementioned. Kessel and Guentzel had two goals and two assists each in Game 2, while Crosby assisted in two of the goals as well. The Penguins have destroyed the Caps' dreams of the Stanley Cup Finals for years now and it doesn't seem to be letting up anytime soon.
It's not that Capitals are not playing well, they dominated the first period in both games, they had multiple scoring chances and drew penalties, while getting into the Penguin's zone more often than not. The puck just won't get passed Fleury, who has been clutch for the Pens. Pittsburgh are just an explosive team with multiple weapons. Guentzel has 7 goals, Crosby and Kessel each have 4, Malkin put in his second in Game 2, but the team is scoring a ton of goals putting morale at an all-time high.
The Penguins are now at home and with any luck they will be able to close out the series in four games. They are favorites tonight at 2.30, while the Caps are not far behind at 2.90.
