Survey also finds one in five would miss wedding or funeral to see their team in the big dance
Betting on the Super Bowl is far more popular than one might think, and Americans would give up a lot to see their team in the big game, if the results of a recently released survey are any indication.
One-third bet on Super Bowl
Some 31 percent of American adults surveyed by CouponCabin.com said they have bet on the outcome of a Super Bowl game at some stage in the past. The survey found that 41% of men have bet on the game, compared to 21% of women. 44% of respondents said they had won $100 or more, while 14% said they had lost $100 or more.
Amazingly, 20% of respondents said they would miss the wedding of a close friend or family member to watch a Super Bowl involving their team, while 19% said they would miss the funeral of a loved one. Some took their commitment to their team even farther, with 15% saying they would even miss the birth of their child.
Pats v Giants betting
For those who do choose to bet, this is shaping up as an unpredictable battle between the New England Patriots, who had the stronger regular season record, and the New York Giants, who upset the Pats in the same game four years ago.
All the online sportsbooks, including William Hill and Sports Interaction, are offering a mountain of Super Bowl options. This ranges from the winner to everything involving points scored and individual players.
