Online Casino Industry in 2005

This year saw some major activity in the online casino industry. It was a year full of ups and downs as well as several important changes that will hopefully keep things moving in the right direction for online gambling in 2006.

Notably, several key online casinos and their operators decided to go ahead with IPO's and this lead to some major commotion on the stock exchange. The year 2005 also saw a few shake ups and the battle between operators and white label skins may continue into the next year. Finally, there were some major legal obstacles (some overcome) in the past year but reform in 2006 seems inevitable.

2005 was definitely a good year for both the industry as well as the millions of gambling fans from around the world. There were a few serious shakeups this year regarding financial forecasts. Some predicted the bubble would soon burst and that the industry had reached an all-time high and could only go down from here. This had some effect on share prices of online casinos that had recently floated their stock on the market. This did not stop others from going ahead with their own IPO's.

From a legal aspect, the industry remains under continuous pressure from the anti-gambling lobby. There were some heated confrontations at the WTO between several Caribbean nations who have legalized the operations from their territory and other countries that wish to enforce a global ban on it. In very recent news the country of South Africa has announced that it may soon legalize online casino operations within its borders. The coming year is sure to be an exciting one.
