Statistics show French Poker is losing its online zeal.
French gambling authority ARJEL has recently presented updated statistics showing that French online poker is continuing to decline. In addition to a limited player pool, sagging numbers in the French online poker industry have been traced to high taxation which suppresses profits for its operators.
Another concern has been the recent regulation of the market. It is hoped, however, that these problems may be offset by changes in the law in other countries allowing for the pooling of players with the French. A move in this direction would allow for an expansion of liquidity and is seen by experts in the field as a possible boost to this now sagging industry.
Heavy Taxation Limits Profits
Dropping numbers in the French online poker industry have been a major concern for ARJEL and operators struggling to survive in their ever-shrinking market. Added to this is the problem that there is a limited player pool for the moment, although changes in the laws of other countries may soon see them pooling their players with the French to expand the liquidity possibilities.
The sharp decline in French online poker cash games, however, was offset by tournament action which did markedly better. The regulators were told that wagers on tournaments grew to €713 million in the first half of the year while active player numbers slipped by 7% to 906,000.
