Playtech Sets Sights on US Gaming Market

Playtech, one of the world's two largest online gambling software companies, has just announced details of its excellent 2012 results, and is now turning its attention to the next big market - the United States.

While it has been slot to follow the rush of other online gambling companies into the US, Playtech CEO recently opened up about his company's American plans by saying that he hoped to announce some news in the "not too distant future."

Weizer made the comment in response to questions from journalists and investors during an earnings call to discuss Playtech's 2012 annual report. The report made little mention of the American growth plans, but Weizer and non-executive chairman Roger Withers did indicate in their annual statements that "developments are in their infancy" and that much work remains to be done to resolve regulatory, political and practical considerations.

2012 Success

Playtech's growing confidence may have something to do with the outstanding results form 2012, which according to the annual report included overall revenue increases of over 50 percent for the calendar year.

Last year, Playtech signed agreements with a number of major online gambling operators including Paddy Power, Gala Coral, Betfair, Betclic Everest, Betfred, Caliente and Unibet.fr. At the beginning of this year, William Hill activated a call option on Playtech's 29% stake in their William Hill Online joint venture, with the £424 million joint venture expected by April.
