Poker Stars Deals 50 Billionth Hand

Site gave out almost $1 million in cash prizes in 50 Billionth promotion.

PokerStars finally recorded its 50 billionth hand last Wednesday, ending a long and tense buildup in which the world's largest online poker room dished out plenty of prizes.

The Winner

The winner of the hand, a previously unknown German named tbvle, beat five other opponents to win the pot of $26 plus an extra $50,000 for doing so on the milestone hand.

Action was frozen on the table as the 50 billionth hand was about to be dealt, allowing for the approximately 220,000 players online on 33,000 other tables at the time to watch the proceedings.

They watched as all six players at the Ornamenta table held on through the preflop, with tbvle eventually winning with pocket queens. However, it wasn't all bad news for the other players at the table, who all earned around $3,000 from VIP Player Points and won entry to the $5,200 World Championship of Online Poker main event.

Personal Records

According to news reports tbvle has played around 290,000 hands over the last 18 months, at a rate of hundreds every day, so he had certainly received enough practice for the big event.

Some $952,239 was given out to PokerStars players during the 50 Billion Promotion, with cash prizes given out to players in 300 separate hands, beginning with number 49.7 billion and continuing through every million hands afterward.
