Poker Stars Women’s Poker League Returns

Two women topped PokerStars money earning list in online poker last year.

The PokerStars Women's Poker League will return to the popular online poker room next week, thanks to the roaring success of last year's instalment.

Women's League 2011

The new season, which begins on February 7, is slightly different from other PokerStars tournaments, in that it is targeted at helping women learn the game while entering with low buy-ins and freerolls.

However, it's partly serious too, with the lure of the PokerStars Women's Live Event package worth $4,000 to be awarded to the winner of both leagues at the end of the year. There are also numerous monthly and yearly cash prizes on offer.

Two tournaments will run each day during the season, with $0.10 buy-in events beginning at 1am and 6pm GMT, and the $1.10 buy-in events beginning at 2am and 7pm GMT.

Women top PokerStars 2010 rankings

2010 proved to be a big year for the women of PokerStars, with two of them heading the poker room's rankings for highest money earners.

Vanessa Selbst beat all comers last year with $2.87 million in earnings, ahead of Liv Boeree with $1.83 million. Another female, Vanessa Rousso, placed ninth on the list, just ahead of high-profile poker pro Daniel Negreanu.
