Powerball Lottery Jackpot Rises Past $200 Million

The US Powerball often has the biggest jackpot in the world and that's certainly the case this week, as it's gone over the $200 million level again.

With an estimated prize of $206 million up for grabs on Wednesday 1st February, this massive prize could be won by US residents, or thanks to ticket services such as The Lotter, the jackpot could go worldwide.

The jackpot was last won on December 17th by a  mystery ticket holder from Delaware and it's been rolling over since then, leading to this huge prize. While the headline value is around $206 million, players have the option to take it all at once in cash, which would mean a payout of about $124 million.

The draw takes place at 23.00 EST on Wednesday 1st February and the jackpot will be claimed by anyone who manages to match 5 main numbers from 1 to 69 with the 5 white balls drawn from a drum on the night, plus the single red Powerball number that comes from a separate drum of 26.

Tickets cost $2 although for an extra $1 players can take the Powerplay option which doubles the prize for matching the 5 main balls to $2 million and multiplies lower level wins by between 2 and 4 times.

Powerball is officially played in 44 US states and is among the most popular games in the world. The odds of hitting the jackpot are around 292 million to 1, while the chances of matching the 5 main numbers for a second-level prize are about 11, 688,000 to 1.
