Premier League 2010/2011 Season Preview

The anticipation and the odds.

Kick-off to the Barclay's Premier League is just around the corner and already there is much to get excited about. Football fans are hoping that England's finest will redeem themselves after a lackluster and disappointing World Cup.

The online sportsbooks are gearing up for an exciting season ahead. All agree that there are four title contenders, Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal and Manchester City.

William Hill's Premier League outright odds are:

  • Chelsea 13/8
  • Man Utd 5/2
  • Man City 9/2

All Change

Man City are a new contender and have had shed loads of money ploughed into them - they spent over £100m last year and have already notched up a further £75m during the summer break. However, time tells us that having a sudden influx of money and players doesn't always provide immediate pay offs - it may take time to knit all the talented individuals together and find a winning formula.

What kind of seasons will Liverpool and Tottenham have this year? Can Harry Redknapp build on last season's 4th place positioning and will their toughly fought Champions League place affect their league form? Will Roy Hodgson hack it at Liverpool and inject some much needed style and energy in last season's underperformers?

Some sportsbooks have kept faith with Liverpool and have them in the running for the team with the top goal scorer. Bwin has the odds as follows:

  • Wayne Rooney 6.50
  • Didier Drogba 6.50
  • Fernando Torres 7.00
Another Record Year?

Last yearChelsea became the first football team to score more than one hundred league goals in a season, finishing with a handsome 103. Will this season see their record broken?

Interestingly 888's highest scoring team punt sees Man City shunted out of the top 3 and lists the odds as follows:

  • Chelsea 6/4
  • Man United 5/2
  • Arsenal 11/4

Whoever you support, one thing's for sure: the Premier League always gets us talking and the online sportsbooks always provide some great bets to pump up the passion stakes even higher.
