Rafael Nadal to Face Ronaldo for Poker DuelPublished September 28, 2014 by Amir G
Tennis world no. 2 Rafael Nadal will face football legend Ronald in a head-to-head poker match next month in London.
Rafael Nadal and Ronaldo will meet next month in London for a head-to-head poker match at a PokerStars event which will be broadcasted live on the net. Scheduled for November 6, the match was dubbed "The Duel" by PokerStars after Brazilian football legend Ronaldo challenged the Spanish 14-time tennis Grand Slam winner Nadal, who was more than happy to accept the challenge.
Nadal and Ronaldo who both serve as PokerStars ambassadors, have already met for a poker match once last December in the European Poker Tour Prague Charity Challenge (EPT), a competition where Nadal beat Ronaldo as well as one of the world's most popular and highly rated players, Daniel Negreanu. The EPT in which the two stars clashed raised €100,000 for charity.
Ronaldo Seeking Revenge
Ahead of the anticipated duel next month, Ronaldo did not attempt to hide his hopes for revenge in the upcoming rematch. "I challenged Rafa to a rematch after finding out he was preparing for another live poker game. The last time we played together Rafa won the match and it was a lot of fun. This time it will be different, though, because I have been improving on my own poker strategy and will be more prepared," said the Brazilian football legend.
After a difficult injury-plagued season which culminated in his withdrawal from the US Open Grand Slam just a month ago, Nadal hopes to repeat his success in last year's poker game against Ronaldo. He said: "It was my first live poker tournament when I last played against Ronaldo and one year later I’m more confident with my skill level. I really enjoy playing poker and the challenge of learning as quickly as possible, so I can’t wait to get back into training on my game and to play against Ronaldo."
