Rank Building Weekend for Top European ClubsPublished February 16, 2018 by Florin P
European football clubs squeeze in domestic league matches between action-packed Champions League and Europa League games.
The most successful European football clubs return to domestic action after resuming their adventure in Champions League and Europa League matches. With few derbies scheduled on Saturday and Sunday, this looks like a great opportunity to pick up valuable points and improve their rank in the tables. Except for the English Premier League which is in recess, all other major championships are underway.
Three Way Race for the Champions League in France
PSG continues to dominate Ligue 1 and is likely to extend its lead, after the match against Strasbourg at home. Monaco, Marseille and Lyon have all won their games last week and are separated by a single point. The first two play at home against opponents that are unlikely to cause them too many problems.
By betting on both of them to win and placing a double chance wager on Lyon not to lose on the road, players can expect odds of 13/10 at 10bet Sportsbook. The match between Marseille and Bordeaux is at least on paper the most exciting one, because of the existing rivalry between the two teams. Lyon is also likely to run into serious opposition, as Lille defends with all lines when playing at Stade Pierre Mauroy.
Easy Away Games for Real Madrid and Barcelona
Champions League matches are the top priority for both Barcelona and Real Madrid, who can afford to focus less on the domestic championship. The former have a significant lead and the reigning champions are simply too far behind to have a chance at winning the trophy. Both of them play on the road and are likely to pick up all three points against Betis and Eibar. The combined odds are 11/10 at 888 Sport.
Atletico Madrid plays in Europa League and is the only team close enough to Barcelona to challenge the leaders. They will try to take advantage of Athletic Bilbao’s recent struggles and win at home. At the same time, Valencia hopes to end the losing streak against last-placed Malaga, despite not having home pitch advantage. They don’t play in any other competition and can focus on the La Liga matches. 10bet Sportsbook offers even odds on Valencia to prevail on the road and remain on the fourth place.
Great Opportunity for Napoli in Serie A
Napoli was able to recover against Lazio after conceding an early goal and now has a great chance to claim the lead. That’s because they play at home against SPAL, while Juventus plays in the derby of Torino against their city rivals. They are still credited with the first chance by 888 Sport and because of the busy schedule punters can expect odds as high as 9/10.
Elsewhere, AC Milan and their city rivals are playing against two teams from Genoa and both are expected to prevail. The odds on Inter Milan to win are 11/10 because they were unable to win many games recently. Lazio only plays on Monday against Verona, while AS Roma opens the Serie A round with a game on the road against Udinese.
Road Games for Bundesliga’s Best Teams
The last round was remarkable for the best teams from the German first division, as all of them prevailed at home. Bayern Munich won with relative ease against Schalke 04 and they’re expected to prevail once again on the road against Wolfsburg. However, they have so many points ahead of the pack that they can afford to rest key players and focus on the Champions League.
While the odds on the reigning champions to prevail are not tempting at 2/5, 10bet Sportsbook is far more generous with those who want to bet on Dortmund for Leipzig. The former play against M’Gladbach in the derby of the two Borussia teams and they are only slight favorites to prevail. Even more difficult to predict is the match between Frankfurt and Leipzig, which are given identical odds of 3/2.
