The Sox will struggle to find a worthy replacement for Jacoby Ellsbury.
Say hello to the new New York Yankees center fielder: Jacoby Ellsbury. The player signed a 7 year contract $153 million contract with the Yankees, leaving his current team Boston Red Sox. The new contract comes after the 30-year-old Ellsbury had one of his best seasons. In 134 games his batting average was .298 with an on-base percentage of .355 and a slugging percentage of .426. Ellsbury had 172 hits and 53 RBIs.
After a 7-year stint with the Red Sox, a fat contract is what lured Ellsbury to arch rivals New York Yankees. A homegrown player in Boston, Ellsbury knows he will not be free of harsh criticism from loyal Red Sox fans when he steps up the plate wearing his new jersey.
This is a big loss from the Sox and a great acquisition for the Yankees. The Yankees are certainly building a lot of hopes on their new acquisition, and it will be interesting to see how Ellsbury will fare. The New Yorkers still haven't had enough - they're courting after shortstop Stephen Drew and outfielder Carlos Beltran.
