Rivalries Are Reignited When PSG and Lyon Lock Horns in Lopsided DerbyPublished December 13, 2015 by Florin P
PSG expected to steamroll past former rivals at Parc de Princes (6:00 p.m UK Time).
Back in the day, a match between PSG and Lyon would have represented the highlight of Ligue 1, as the two teams used to battle for the title. While this is no longer the case this year, as the reigning champions have a commanding lead over the pack, rivalries will be ignited nonetheless. Lyon is plummeting through the standings and it looks like only a miracle could bring them back on track and in contention for a Champions League berth.
Ibrahimovic Returns to the Starting Formation
The Swedish superstar was rested for a couple of games, but he is back in the first 11 after PSG was held scoreless at Angers. With him in the starting formation, the team won easily against Nice and Zlatan scored twice and created multiple opportunities.
Cavani is also expected to team up with the Swedish player, while DiMaria has earned his place up front and could prove instrumental against Lyon. PSG played midweek as well, but the were already qualified to the next stage of the Champions League regardless of the outcome of this fixture.
No Victory in More than a Month
Lyon were the runners-up in early November, but since then they were unable to win any match and lost four out of five. The disappointing performance can be partially explained by the fact that the team misses a couple of key players, including defensemen. To make matters worse, they were held scoreless in the last two games, after allowing four goals against Montpellier.
The overall head to head record is pretty balance, but punters shouldn’t be deceived, as the difference between PSG and Lyon is significant. It is definitely worth trusting the home side to cover the -1.5 goals spread, a bet that is priced at even odds by bet365 Sports and several other top bookmakers.
