Online payments giant acquires one of the leaders in the European market
Skrill (Moneybookers) has added another payment method to its rapidly expanding network, following the completion this week of the acquisition of European market leader Paysafecard Wertkarten AG.
Skrill adopts Paysafecard
The acquisition of paysafecard marks a big step for Skrill, cementing its position as one of the leading digital wallet providers for casino payments. Paysafecard's products enable casino deposits to be made without a credit card or bank account at hundreds of online gambling sites.
Skrill and paysafecard's joint offering will deliver an end-to-end stored value payment solution, combining the former's existing payments service with the latter's secure prepaid product. It certainly boosts Skrill's chances of achieving its goal of becoming the first choice for online payments in casino and online transactions in general.
Digital Wallet keeps growing
Skrill reported late last year that it now had 30 million registered customer accounts worldwide, from a total number of merchants of 135,000. Among these are hundreds if not thousands of gambling websites offering everything from sports betting to casino games and bingo and poker products.
All this is big news for a company that changed its name from the well-known brand of Moneybookers just over a year ago. The name change has clearly been received well by customers, who continue to use Skrill for its reputation for security, efficiency and privacy protection.
