Slot Review: Wonder Hounds from NextGen Gaming

Meet the Wonder Hounds and discover how these cute critters can help players win on this dog-themed slot.

There are 12 animals in the Chinese Zodiac, with each featuring once in the 12-year cycle. To honour the 2018 Chinese New Year, NextGen Gaming embraced the Year of the Dog as the principal theme for the Wonder Hounds slot. This was released in 2018 as an appealing slot experience for doggie enthusiasts.

Design

Although Wonder Hounds has drawn inspiration from the Year of the Dog, the slot is quite low on Chinese imagery. Nevertheless, NextGen has uses a warm colour pallet where the cartoon graphics appear brightly on the screen. The graphics are also consistently displayed over desktop and mobile screens.

The slot has been made simply with five reels and three rows. This results in Wonder Hounds having 15 symbols as the maximum screen capacity for any one spin. A selection of dog symbols and playing cards are then used to fill the reels, which house 25 fixed paylines.

Wagering

The fact that the 25 paylines are fixed will have an impact on the wagering. Wonder Hounds has a basic system where players click on the up or down arrows to adjust the betting value accordingly. At the lowest, it will only be €0.25 per spin on Wonder Hounds, with the top end of the scale allowing a much greater €250.00 on each spin.

Features

There is a paw symbol set on a blue background that will activate up to 15 free games. At the same time, there shall also be anywhere from one to 15 wilds positioned on the reels and locked in place before the free games commence.

Wonder Hounds Gone Wild is the next major feature and can potentially be triggered on any spin. This will result in one of the Wonder Hounds becoming wild on each of the reels. Watch out for Ace, Winchester, and Jinse as the cast of Wonder Hounds. Notably, they offer the highest multipliers in the base game.

Verdict

Wonder Dogs offers a 400x maximum multiplier, free games, locked wilds, and a return to player (RTP) percentage of 96.47%. Combine mobile compatibility with those beneficial aspects and Wonder Hounds becomes quite a fun option for any casino-playing dog owners out there.
