Sporting Gijon Fights for Its Survival Against Malaga

Winless Malaga and Gijon go for all three points at Estadio de la Rosaleda (5:30 p.m UK Time).

Sporting Gijon made it to the Spanish first flight and the fans were ecstatic, but the odds are stacked against them this season. In order to survive for another year, they need to turn the ship around and unless they start earning points, the dream will be over. Defeating Malaga on the road is not going to be easy, given the hosts’ track record but this is the objective the visitors have for Friday night.

No Victory in a Month

February has been a terrible month for both teams, as both of them failed miserably in their attempts of securing three points. Malaga was the bigger disappointment due to the fact that they have a solid roster and the injury concerns were limited to a handful of players. While their performance was significantly better than the one of Sporting Gijon, they have split points on three occasions.

Gijon was even worse and after losing three consecutive games, they sank back into the relegation area that they tried so hard to leave behind. The team has a very difficult schedule ahead, with games against other teams fighting in the nether area and the high profile match against Atletico Madrid.

No Point in Splitting Points

Malaga still has theoretical chances of securing a Europa League berth, but they trail the pack by 11 points. Time is quickly running out and they will need to take more chances upfront, despite having a very permeable defensive.

Gijon can definitely relate to the hosts struggles, because their backline is in horrible form and a key defender will be missing after picking up a red card. With the defensive lines in shambles and two teams aiming for all three points, punters should bet on more than 2.5 goals to be scored at even odds offered by bet365 Sports.
