Launch of iPhone apps proves fruitful for major online gaming operator such as Sportingbet.
Online bookmaker Sportingbet has received a boost from an increase in the use of its popular smartphone applications, the Channel Islands-based company said Wednesday.
Sportingbet now boasts some 10,000 mobile gaming customers, a 10-fold increase since it launched its iPhone application just six months ago and constituting some 7 percent of its total customer base.
The growth was also noticed in overall live sports betting, which rose 27% in the quarter ending October.
Total wagers increased by 11 percent to £513.9 million, while profits rose 17 percent to £11.3 million on the back of growth in its online gaming sectors in Australia and eastern Europe.
Sports Betting BusinessThis latest announcement comes as speculation increases over a possible merger between Sportingbet and another major gambling company. A merger with Sweden's Unibet was on the cards until earlier in November, when Sportingbet confirmed it had pulled out of those talks.
The company is now looking at expanding in the Italian market and outside of Europe, CEO Andy McIver said in a recent interview.
