Stanley Cup Finals Game 1 Preview: Predators vs PenguinsPublished May 29, 2017 by Sol FH
It's time for Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals and the Nashville Predators are in their first ever Championship tonight at 1:00 GMT.
It was an incredible run by all teams in this years NHL Playoffs, but we are down to the last two. The Nashville Predators have made it to their first-ever Stanley Cup Finals and will take on the Pittsburgh Penguins tonight in Game 1. The Predators downed the Anaheim Ducks back on May 22nd to secure their seat in the Finals, while the Pens needed an epic double-overtime victory to defeat the Ottawa Senators. What is really amazing about this years Finals is the fact that the Predators were ranked No. 8 at the beginning of the playoffs and, against all odds have made it, and they are just the third ever No. 8 ranked team to do so in NHL history.
The series should be incredible, as both teams have their strengths and weaknesses. The defending NHL Champs, the Pittsburgh Penguins are trying to make it back-to-back Finals' wins, but the plucky Predators are a "wildcard" that could be the victors on hockey's biggest stage.
The Predators are doing some great things on the ice, but they are very inexperienced in the Finals, with just one of their players ever being in the Stanley Cup. Mike Fisher, the Predators' Captain was on the 2007 Senators team that were runners-up that season. He was injured in Game 4 of the Conference Finals and has not been back yet, but hopefully he will make an appearance during this series. Aside from Fisher, the Predators do have the league's best defense including P.K. Subban, Mattias Ekholm, Roman Josi and Ryan Ellis.
The Penguins are tired after needing two Game 7's to advance to the Finals. Prior to the Conference Finals, the Pens looked like they would fall to the Washington Capitals, and then again in the Conference Finals, it looked like the Ottawa Senators would definitely take Game 7, but the experience and the stars on the Pens' roster have shown time and time again that they are too good to fall.
