Tennis: Nishikori and Cilic Meet in Shocking US Open Underdog Final

Japan's Nishikori goes against Croatia's Marin Cilic in shock US Open underdog final (10pm UK time).

This year's US Open Grand Slam is wrapping up after an exciting tourney featuring great games and fantastic performances by all players. More than anything else this US Open was surprising, at least in the men's competition, as Kei Nishikori and Marin Cilic meet for the final tonight at 10pm UK time.

Serena Wins 18th Grand Slam

The Women's Singles title wasn't surprising at all as Serena Williams secured her 18th Grand Slam title after she beat Caroline Wozniacki in yesterday at the Arthur Ashe Stadium court. Yet, it was a great display of the world's best female tennis player who beat the Dane in the first two sets 6-3, 6-3.

Shocking Men's Singles Final

For the first time since 2002, two players who are not ranked in the world's first ten are showing up for tonight's final. Kei Nishikori is quite close though, ranked 11, he is making Japanese history and will have 127 million people in his country watch him fight for the coveted title tonight. The 24-year-old underwent foot surgery after Wimbledon and wasn't sure that he would even attend the US Open, but he delivered.

Marin Cilic, ranked 16, shocked Federer in the semis. His hard hitting and very precise serves were something the Swiss just couldn't handle. The last game before winning was marked by Cilic hitting three consecutive aces; after the match he said that this was the best tennis he had ever played in his life.
