The Ashes 1st Test Third Day: Will Australia Stand up to England?

It's the third day at The Ashes and things aren't looking good for the Aussies – will they stand up to the English onslaught? (10:00 UK time).

It's the third day in the first Ashes test at Cardiff and England has got Australia on the run. The Englanders have been dominating the pitch at Cardiff along the first two days, pushing the Aussies to the very edge. Australia could be facing a formidable first-innings deficit if they don't seriously step up their game today. Australia finished 5-264, trailing by 166 on England's first innings total of 430 at the third day.

Moeen Ali – The Main Man

Batsman Moeen Ali has risen up as the main figure in yesterday's game, where he delivered an MVP performance striking a rapid 77 to bring England's first innings to 430.

Ali has certainly proved any of his doubters wrong, as it wasn't clear whether he or Adil Rashid will take the position prior to the Test. Given his powerful performance, Moeen Ali is a prime choice for individual bets – will he outdo himself today?

All Pressure on Australia

And so it is – the Aussies are under intense pressure after two days and it's not looking good. The Aussies were shooting reckless shots one after another, and their performance stood in stark difference compared to the discipline England has shown. Many in the land down under are now directing their hopes and thoughts to one man: Shane Watson.

The batsman seems to have went down from his prime, but today is his golden opportunity to shine. The third day is critical for Australia – they have to inch closer to England for the ability to apply pressure on England in the third innings.
