One of the most anticipated horse racing events of the summer starts on Monday 30th July 2018. It takes place at the Galway Racecourse and for nearly a week it will keep the fans at the edge of their seats. The Galway Races Summer Festival has a reputation for meeting and exceeding expectations. That’s because in addition to the exciting horse races, players will enjoy the ultimate in hospitality, fashion and entertainment. Last year more than 140,000 people attended and even more are expected in 2018.
Gather Your Tribe on Monday
The Galway Races Summer Festival begins on a positive note with the opening day when everyone gets together in The City of The Tribes. Once again, the highlight of the day will be the Connacht Hotel race with a prize of €59,000. Winner Sports has a clear favorite for this event, with Limini getting odds of 7/4 to prevail. The closest contender is Chelkar, but he is at a considerable distance, so we can only expect odds of 4/1. Punters who don’t mind a long shot bet get odds of 11/1 on Azzuri and Uradel.
Those who are also hoping for alternative entertainment should know that Live Bands and DJ’s daily can be expected here. Galway Races provide an impressive selection of hospitality facilities, so there’s plenty to do and see at the venue. Those who attend the event in large groups can pay the €35 per person for the Festival Package for the all-inclusive bundle.
If it’s Wednesday, it is: Galway Plate
After the enthusiasm caused by the opening day has somewhat subsided, punters get back in the saddle with the Galway Plate. This is one of the most exciting races of the week but also the most difficult to predict. 888 Sport has no fewer than nine horses separated by very little, with odds ranging from 8/1 to 16/1. Patricks Parks and Tully East are tied as top favorites with odds of 8/1, followed at a short distance by Peregrine Run and Slowmotion. The bookmaker gives odds of 10/1 on their victory.
Things get truly interesting for those who seek an even better return on investment. Blazer, Drumcliff, Jury Duty and Calino Dairy are the next in line with odds of 12/1 and any can cause an upset. Bel Ami de Sivola, Koshari and Vieux Morvan get odds of 14/1, followed by A Rated with 16/1. These odds are subject to change and other horses that are now given bigger odds could join the favorites.
Ladies Day at the Galway Festival
For many participants and long-time fans of the Galway Races Summer Festival, Thursday is the best day of the week. That’s because this is when some of the best races are scheduled and they are brilliantly mixed with fashion parades. There are seven or eight races per day, starting at 2:30 PM and concluding late in the evening, so participants will have their hands full. Participants will also get to see the best in Irish fashion, with famous judges that include fashion editors, actors and TV personalities.
The most anticipated moment of the day is the Guinness Galway Hurdle Handicap, with its huge prize fund. As much as €300,000 will be split among the most successful jockeys, and these year the race promises to be breathtaking. There is no clear favorite and four horses stand out from the crowd. bet365 Sports offers odds of 6/1 on Whiskey Sour and 7/1 on Le Richebourg, slightly smaller than the 8/1 offered on Good Thyne Tara. Close behind there is Ivanovich Gorbatov with 17/2.
