UK Online Gaming Giant William Hill PLC Gets Cozy with NJ Racetrack to offer legal sportsbetting.
The UK's most respected name in sportsbetting, William Hill has clinched a highly lucrative deal with NJ racetrack - Monmouth Park. This deal comes hot on the heels of perceived changes to sportsbetting legislation in the Garden State. The state of New Jersey is set to make amendments to sportsbetting laws. Talks are underway with the state and its case against sports leagues. For its part, William Hill is the first to arrive on the scene and is looking to get in with Monmouth Park to provide betting options at the racetrack.
$1 Million Haskell Invitational Championship Event
William Hill will be sponsoring the $1m Haskell Invitational slated for July 28th 2013. The agreement is likely to be a long-term endorsement between Monmouth Park and William Hill. CEO of William Hill, Joe Asher, is delighted with the prospect of legalized sports betting in the state of New Jersey. Until that occurs, WH will be sponsoring the Haskell Invitational.
Overhauling New Jersey Sportsbetting Laws
Earlier in 2013, NJ passed laws permitting sportsbetting within its geographic borders. However, owing to dissent from the big sports leagues - the NCAA included - a federal judge sided with the leagues. At stake, according to the sports leagues is the issue of the integrity of the sports. Presently no states within the USA are allowed to engage in any form of sports betting (with notable exceptions).
The final decision will be made by the Third Circuit Court of Appeals on 26th June 2013.
