The London Derby Pits Struggling Chelsea Against In-Form Arsenal

Mourinho tries to turn the ship around as Chelsea welcomes Arsenal at Stamford Bridge (12:45 p.m UK Time).

One month ago when Chelsea was defeating some of the best teams in the world in the friendly ICC competition, nobody could predict this awful season start. The team is already struggling in the second half of the standings and its chances to defend the trophy this season are slim to none. Arsenal could strike the final blow to its city rival this Saturday, when they travel to Stamford Bridge for the London Derby.

All-In for Mourinho

The Portuguese manager is famous for his pragmatism and ability to defend narrow margin leads when necessary. This tactic backfired badly so far, as Chelsea started Premier League games cautiously and found itself behind after its opponents scored an early goal. Injury concerns also played a role in their early season meltdown and they’ve conceded plenty of goals in the final minutes of the game.

Despite the stellar lineup, the strikers have struggled to score even against mediocre teams and the 4-2-3-1 formation was largely a disappointment. Chelsea will have to take more chances against Arsenal because they’ve got nothing left to lose and need to throw everything they’ve got at the Gunners.

Arsenal Fancies a Draw at Stamford Bridge

Defeating Chelsea at home would mean a great deal for Arsenal and Arsene Wenger personally, but the visitors won’t go for outright victory. Instead they will consolidate their defensive, which is already performing better than expected and will try to keep a clean sheet for the fourth consecutive game.

Bookmakers are still trusting Chelsea to win this fixture and due to the team’s recent struggles the odds are surprisingly good for a home win. Bet365 Sports leads the pack with 11/8, perhaps the best value offered in head to head matches against Arsenal since Mourinho took over. Those who expect Chelsea’s misery to continue, can also lock in on top odds of 15/8 for the visitors to triumph.
