On Wednesday 26th October the Powerball lottery draw takes place with a jackpot estimated to be $164 million.
The US Powerball lottery jackpot has rolled over to an estimated $164 million, which equals a cash value of around $109 million. The next draw takes place at 10.59pm EST on Wednesday 26th October and now that sites such as The Lotter, Play USA Lotteries and Play Huge Lottos are around, anyone can have a go at winning this huge prize.
No-one matched all the numbers on Saturday to claim the $151 million jackpot, so it has rolled over again to this new level. The last time the jackpot was hit was on September 17th when a couple from Atlanta Georgia won a $246.8 million jackpot, although like most winners, they selected the instant cash option which paid them $165.6 million.
The other option open to jackpot winners is to have the prize paid out in instalments, with an initial payment and then further ones over the next 29 years,
How To Play The Powerball
For $2, players get to pick 5 main numbers from a group of 69 and a single Powerball number from between 1 and 26. There is an optional PowerPlay game which costs $1 and multiplies wins other than the jackpots by up to 5x, with the $1 million prize for matching the 5 main numbers doubled.
With a total of nine prize levels, the odds of winning something is around 1 in 9, and lower level prizes start at $4 for matching the Powerball.
Draws take place in Tallahassee Florida each Wednesday and Saturday night at 10.59pm local time.
Playing Online
People from around the world entering via online ticket services should take into account the time difference between where they are and Eastern Time, with the cut off to purchase them being an hour before the draw. Although draws are usually local or regional games, tickets for this and other lotteries are purchased by local agents on behalf of players, with winnings sent directly to their chosen bank accounts, while big prizes can even be collected in person.
